The Male Infertility & Testicular Pain Center

Sijo Joseph Parekattil, MD

Co-Director of Robotic Surgery
Director, Male Infertility & Microsurgery
Assistant Professor of Urology
Adjunct Professor of Bio-Engineering
University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.

This website is for Dr.Parekattil's patients for information about our robotic infertility and testicular/groin pain program. Our mission is to provide the highest level of care and most innovative new treatment options for male infertility and chronic testicular or groin pain.

The center offers a complete array of male infertility evaluation and treament options. This is one of the premier Male Infertility Centers to incorporate the DaVinci S High Definition Robotic Surgical System and offer a full array of robotic assisted microsurgical treatment options for male infertility (listed below).

The center has also developed a comprehensive multi-disciplinary clinic that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of chronic testicular and/or groin pain. This clinic incorporates elements of physical therapy, pain managment, general surgery (hernia workup), neurology (spinal abnormalities) and urology. The goal is to offer comprehensive patient care and deliver innovation treatment options for patients with chronic testicular and/or groin pain. In October 2008, Dr.Parekattil performed the first successful robotic assisted microsurgical neurolysis of the spermatic cord for the treatment of this condition.

Dr.Parekattil has dual fellowship training from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Advanced Laparoscopy/Robotic Surgery and Microsurgery and Male Infertility. He was an Electrical Engineer prior to his medical training and thus is involved in developing surgical techniques incorporating robotic surgery and microsurgery.

We offer the following male infertility procedures:

  • Robotic Vasectomy Reversal
    • Robotic Vasosvasostomy
    • Robotic Vasoepididymostomy
  • Robotic TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)
  • Robotic Varicocelectomy
  • PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
  • MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Extraction)
  • Testis Biopsy
  • Sperm Cryopreservation
  • Electroejaculation for Spinal Cord Injury Patients
  • Vibratory Ejaculation for Spinal Cord Injury Patients
  • Complete Sperm Analysis
  • Retrograde Ejaculation Treatment

We offer the following testicular / groin / inguinal pain procedures:

  • Mapped focused groin & inguinal spermatic cord blocks for pain relief
  • Robotic Microsurgical Neurolysis of the spermatic cord
    • - sub-inguinal & inguinal approaches

The robot allows increased degrees of freedom in motion, similar to moving your wrist. This allows for enhanced dexterity, maneuverability and precision. We are one of the only a few centers in the world that offers the new DaVinci S High Definition Robotic Surgical System.

DaVinci S, the next generation robot, allows for greater maneuverability. It also includes an additional fourth robotic arm that allows for improved efficiency and multi-tasking during the procedure. The High Definition upgrade further allows for five times the 3D magnification over standard robotic surgery to allow for even more precision and accuracy during microsurgical cases.

On July 25th, 2007, Dr.Parekattil performed the first human bilateral robotic vasoepididymostomy - a complex robotic vasectomy reversal.
